'Fuge of Art'

"Art of Fugue" is a co-production between Misha Films and the New Century Saxophone Quartet represented by Besen Arts at Purdue University. It is a HDTV projection visualization accompanying a live performance by the quartet of the 'Art of Fugue' by Johann Sebastian Bach. The parties agreed to work on visual representation of three of the Contrapuncti - Fugues #1, #10 and #19, which have been performed at Purdue University and St.Louis so far.

I visualized Key segments combining 2D and 3D environments, with extensive use of 3D Lighting, Dynamics & Particle systems for slow and meditative transitions. The visuals co-exist in perfect balance and integration with this special musical experience. The project in its completion also aspires to make some part of the visuals real time, fully synchronized with the live music.

Cross Final

Built a polygonal model of floor and cross in 3D and had separate particle system emiited from surface of cross (HW rendered with Alpha) with influence of uniform field pulling the slowly built up particle grid on the cross away at the end.

In 2D I used the particle system as an Alpha Tracking Matte to slowly reveal the underlaying cross. A 2nd cross layer slowly fades in towards the end when the particles are being pulled away completely by the influence of the Uniform field.

Helix Final

Similar to the cross reveal of the original geometry, I am using several layers of particles to animate an Inveretd Alpha Matte and an additional Particle comp on top to create the feeling of burning sparklers moving up the HELIX geometry, revealing it during the process.
